Inspired by the frame of a bicycle and influenced by the constructivist theories of the De Stjil movement, Marcel Breuer was still an apprentice at the Bauhaus when he reduced the classic club chair to its elemental lines and planes, forever changing the course of furniture design.
Construction and Details
- Seat: Spinneybeck® belting leather with edges dyed to match or Spinneybeck haired hide
- Frame: Seamless 1" diameter tubular steel with polished chrome or ultra-matte powder-coated finish
- The 2024 introductions of ultra-matte dark red, onyx, and white reframe the iconic form of this Bauhaus-era chair
- Leather options are curated for their strength and premium feel
- Four plastic floor glides snap into pre-drilled holes on chair base
- An original Marcel Breuer design, the frame is stamped with the Knoll logo and designer signature, ensuring lifetime authentication.
Frame: Seamless tubular steel with a polished chrome finish
Upholstery: Cowhide slings: thick cowhide leather slings in five colours.
Belting leather: Highly durable Spinneybeck belting leather in a wide range of colours.
Haired Hide: Spinneybeck Haired Hide in different colours. Haired Hide is a natural material, markings are one of a kind and will vary from piece to piece.
Canvas: Canvas slings in a natural colour.
Glides: Opaque plastic glides shipped with each chair for optional on-site insertion to use on hard floors.
