designcraft are pleased to introduce a new brand to Canberra - &Tradition
&Tradition reworks design icons from past masters and creates tomorrow’s classics in collaboration with contemporary designers, upholding the tenets of craftsmanship to produce furniture, lighting and accessories that meet modern needs for function, comfort and beauty.
Paying homage to Denmark’s long-standing design heritage, &Tradition bridges old and new by creating furniture, lighting and interior objects with timeless appeal. From reissuing design icons to creating future classics in collaboration with acclaimed international designers, the collection combines craftsmanship with creativity and shapes carefully considered pieces with purpose and meaning. Always respectfully. Always made to last.
Spanning decades of timeless design icons – from Verner Panton’s norm-breaking Flowerpot lamp first produced in the late 1960s to Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen’s Mayor sofa designed specifically for Søllerød’s city hall located in the outskirts of Copenhagen – &Tradition’s collection of furniture, lighting and interior objects ranges from reissued mid-century classics to contemporary pieces.
Once fought-over by design appreciators at auctions around the world and available to only a handful of people, many of &Traditions products – including the Mayor sofa, Viggo Boesen’s Little Petra chair and some of the newly-added Hvidt & Mølgaard designs – are retrieved from original sketches and produced on a large scale for the first time ever.
Alongside such mid-century gems are a number of contemporary pieces, the work of some of today’s most acclaimed international artists: Valencia-based Jaime Hayon, local studio Space Copenhagen, Swedish-raised designer Sami Kallio and Norwegian duo Anderssen & Voll – to name a few.

From now until 30 September, Danish brand &Tradition are offering a 10% discount on the following product collections.
Located on the castle grounds of Copenhagen’s Kastellet overlooking the waterfront promenade that is home to the Little Mermaid, The Langelinie Pavilion stands with a resilient spirit. The first Pavilion was built in 1885. The second was built in 1902 for the Royal Danish Yacht Club but was sadly destroyed during World War II. The current Pavilion was built 1958 by architect couple Eva and Niels Koppel in homage to modernism. Echoing its own ability to endure is the Pavilion chair by Andersen & Voll. Here the challenge was to design a stackable chair used for mass seating in this iconic, multi-purpose venue, the Langelinie Pavilion, the result is a chair collection with a light, airy feeling and a curvaceous silhouette. Available in a variety of finishes and upholstery options.
The iconic SAS Royal Hotel turned to Space Copenhagen founders Signe and Peter, who designed a chair that would look lovely in the hotel - and actually anywhere, Loafer. “The SAS Royal Hotel lobby is an essential part of their legendary interior,” says Peter. “It’s enormous and elegant. We wanted to design a piece of furniture that could create a sense of intimacy in this very open space”.
Catch JH1-2, JH13-17 by Jaime Hayon
Catch, Jaime Hayon’s first contribution to &tradition’s collection, is a chair that welcomes you with open arms. Its armrests extend from the shell like literal limbs, ready to embrace you as you sit down. In addition to being a witty personification, it is also an eye-catching piece of design. Serpentine lines give it a playful lightness that is counterbalanced by a sturdy, well-balanced base and legs that ensure maximum comfort. The shell offers comfort alongside great variability. With multiple textile and leather upholstery options available from Kvadrat and CA-MO and three different options for the legs (Wooden legs, tube legs or swivel base), Catch can be adapted to almost any colour scheme.
Elefy JH28-31 by Jaime Hayon
The Elefy mirrors the rounded curves of its muse: the elephant. Designed by critically acclaimed artist and designer Jaime Hayon, this evocative piece envelops the sitter to create a sense of comfort. Available in a range of colours and upholstery options, with a base in either metal or solid wood.
Develius EV1-EV7 by Edward van Vliet
Develius is Edward van Vliet’s idea of the archetypal modular sofa. With its elongated seat, it’s reminiscent of a chaise lounge, inviting you to luxuriate at length for hours on end. The individual sofa components, pouf and lush, loose pillows invite you to compose your own piece of paradise. Available in a wide variety of fabric and leather upholstery.
